Resurrection: Kelly Building
1790 Granville Street, Halifax, Nova Scotia
Collaboration between Sarah Haydon Roy and Charley Young

Now a void space, the formerly occupied Kelly Building will be resurrected. The demolished structure that was once a registered heritage property fell into extreme disrepair prior to its demolition in 2005. Using frottaged fabric, an eerie and ghostly appearance is created of a building whose existence is no longer. Within the vacant lot and occupying this recreated space will be a luggage graveyard paying homage to the long lost merchants of Granville Street. Together the resurrected façade and luggage graveyard will serve as a remembrance to Halifax's fleeting local heritage.

Last night was the 19th Annual Wearable Arts Show in Granville Mall, Halifax. The event was amazing and raised money for the AIDS Coalition of Nova Scotia. The show was held entirely outdoors and I modeled a large 'nest' for Becky Frizzell, my homegurl at The Flower Shop. She rocked my socks and made the most show stopping pieces.

Joe's on the corner of Maynard and Cornwallis.

I don't know what it is about Joe Thomeh's but something keeps me coming back. I will walk past Pats Convenience Store ( the one that sells the cod and the pair of rabbits for 7 dollars) to get to Joe's. Perhaps it is the later hours of operation, or maybe the 'Al a Mama' food made by Joe's wife Kim. I swear the hummus and bean salad are to die for. It could also be that the prices of things are just made up when when the price is absent or when Joe can't make out the difference between the 6 and the 8. Sometimes its saving and sometimes its an expense. Be carefully with the crusty rolls because sometimes they are a little moldy and i have never tried the meat behind the meat counter. The fridge at the back where the pop is kept is never cold and barely even lukewarm. But Joe's is refreshing. It is a family business where they live above their store. They know the neighborhood and are known by the neighborhood.

This is my Dad fixing my bike and adding the famous panda bear bell.

This is my Dad and I circa 2006 in the natural hotsprings in Haida Gwaii, B.C.

Today my Dad turns 54 years YOUNG and I am lucky to be his daughter.

These are some lessons that i have learnt from my father.
1- If you are ever at a loss for the all important letter "S" in a scrabble game do not hesitate to use the backside of a common "I" or "O" as a blank tile. This lesson proves useful in all scenarios of a scrabble game, especially where a triple or double word score is concerned.

2- Always remember to make sure that you have not left anything behind. In particular it is important to roll down your car window when leaving a camping site to ensure that bike helmets, tents and your wife are not left behind. You can also use your rear view mirror when necessary but make sure that your view is not obstructed by a camper on the back of your blue truck.

3- Treat your friends the best. For example, give your friend, who just gave you a car ride to the mountains more than the necessary amount of money for gas. When they say $10 would be fine give them $15. Trust me, this lesson ensures that people know your full appreciation for their generosity.

4- Never miss a chance to be with your friends. This one is similar to Carpe Diem and is generally a good rule to abide by.

5- Make sure that your keys are on your person. Even if this requires carrying around a little person, do it. Because when you don't got your keys, you aint got nothin'.

6- When some one asks you for help, assist them as much as possible. This is what will differentiate you from any old friend. Be willing to put in extra effort because sooner or later you are going to need assistance too.

7- When asked if you would like to do something, such as a weekend getaway, give a straight forward answer. A yes or no will do. A Maybe will get both parties nowhere.

8- Drive every car like it is a Mini Cooper. This means taking corners too fast for the Pontaic G8 rental car that you are driving.

9- Take care of the people you love.

These are the Canada Day fireworks that i partially watched from the top of Citadel Hill.

1- Today i rolled down a grassy hill while laughing as hard as I could.
2- I received several pep talks.
3- Fireworks over the harbour.
4- A used printmaking roller that was given to me.
5- Watching a container ship being guided into postition by little tug boats.

Yesterday i received this piece of mail from a grumpy old postman, as i was sitting on the front steps of my house, watching my dad fix my bicycle. Through the mail process it got ripped into two pieces. Those nice folk as Canada Post reattached the two halves using packing tape and sent it to me in this plastic bad. On top is stamped an apology.

I finally made it to the worlds largest Illuminated Fiddle. It was a long wait, but it was worth it! That red speck is me.

I am home now. I have seen the fiddle, the highlands, Louisburg, my papa, Mother Webbs, folk art, the reversing falls, a graveyard on a hill, and boarded up buildings. And i am home now.
