Nocturne 2009- Resurrection: Kelly Building

Resurrection: Kelly Building
1790 Granville Street, Halifax, Nova Scotia
Collaboration between Sarah Haydon Roy and Charley Young

Now a void space, the formerly occupied Kelly Building will be resurrected. The demolished structure that was once a registered heritage property fell into extreme disrepair prior to its demolition in 2005. Using frottaged fabric, an eerie and ghostly appearance is created of a building whose existence is no longer. Within the vacant lot and occupying this recreated space will be a luggage graveyard paying homage to the long lost merchants of Granville Street. Together the resurrected façade and luggage graveyard will serve as a remembrance to Halifax's fleeting local heritage.

I think this is a totally cool concept.

We were totally blown away with
your artistic recreation of the
Kelly Building on Granville.
I am writing on behalf of the
family members of Kellys Luggage Ltd. who unfortunately were away at
the time of the presentation. It was very innovative and a great way to remind the city of it's lost heritage sites.
p.s. Rumor was that there was a
resident ghost who roamed the 4 - 5th floors! He was probably there
last week.
